Jarrett Boyd

2021

Business

Jarrett Boyd, a Greensboro native and the son of two HBCU attendees, grew up in a household that instilled the importance of HBCUs from an early age. He chose North Carolina A&T State University because it is the number one producer of Black engineers, and he knew he wanted to study engineering and attend an HBCU. On top of that, NCAT offered him their premier undergraduate merit scholarship, the Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholarship, which he says made his decision that much easier. Passionate about optimization and solving complex problems, he decided to study Industrial & Systems Engineering to equip himself with the analytical toolkit to add value to a company. Following graduation, Jarrett wants to take advantage of the multitude of opportunities for early-stage career development in either management consulting or tech. In addition to optimization and problem solving, he wants to be a driving force for better representation in these industries. Among experiences spanning research, study abroad, extracurricular involvement, and internships, Jarrett is most proud of becoming an Apple HBCU Scholar, Leading the Beta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to District Chapter of the Year as Chapter President, and receiving the Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholarship.
